Importance of ICSE previous year’s Question Papers

The students appearing for the board exam are already aware of the importance of solving the previous year question paper as they have already been guided well by their teachers. The students are all set to burn midnight oil to deliver best in their board exam.

The first step has already been accomplished i.e. studying the prescribed textbooks. To attain a better edge and a better insight into the exam, a student has to fine tune its preparation levels by solving these question papers.

This solves dual purpose, first: it imbibes confidence to the students and second: it offers good practice to the students as per the pattern so that students maintain their speed as well as accuracy on the final exam day.

Let’s check out why solving the question papers is so important:

  1. It covers everything

While solving the question papers, you will feel that in some questions two topics are clubbed together. It will give you an idea that how two chapters are interrelated. Moreover you won’t need to solve any other books. Just the previous year question papers and some sample papers will work too. These question papers will cover each and every topic as per the exam.

  1. You can understand the pattern

Different weightage is given to different topics. Though there are equal marks for each sub topic such as physics, chemistry and biology but the number of question may vary. So, when you get to know the pattern and the distribution of marks, it will help you prevent spending too much time on concepts that aren’t very important for the tests you’re focusing on.

  1. Fewer curve balls:

Apart from understanding the pattern, these question papers will give you a deep insight into what kind of questions is asked from each topic. Going through the solutions will help you to identify the correct approach which should be followed while framing the answers. There may be MCQ or one word type questions as well. So, understanding the pattern will add a next level in your preparation.

  1. Improve your speed

This is the main reason too. The student will understand how the paper should be solved in the given time frame.  By solving the previous year question papers will give you an approximation that how paper is going to be like.

The more you solve the papers, the more confident you become over your practice and speed. This also helps you in better tome management so that you spare out time in the end for revision and you are sure that you will be able to complete the paper on time.

  1. Confidence:

Remember, when you solve previous years’ papers, you are not just solving a question bank. These are real papers from the actual exams that have happened in the past. If you can crack these, you can crack the exam. Just knowing this should make you feel ten times more prepared.

Where can I download the previous year question bank with solutions?

Most of the websites offer just the previous year question paper and not the solution. There is no use of solving a paper whose answers you don’t know. As you won’t be able to refer that whether you have solved the question right? The approach followed by you is apt or not?

It may happen that you might get confused between two different similar looking problems. So, having a solution book is always useful. By referring to the solution books you get an idea what is expected from you in the paper.

Ncertbooks.guru offers its users a complete free access to all the previous year’s question papers in PDF format. You can download the question bank in one just single click. No sign up required and no login required too.

Full Form of ICSE?

ICSE stands for “Indian Certificate of Secondary Education” .Under the Chairmanship of Minister of Education, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, an All India Certification Examinations Conference was held in 1952 with an ultimate aim to replace Cambridge School Certification and introduce All India Examination. To extend with the same an inaugural meeting was held in 1958 and a scheme of Anglo-Indian education to govern the University of Cambridge on the basis of Consortium Indian examination was approved.

The Council thus named as “Council for the Indian School Certification Examinations” (CISCE) was registered in December 1967 as a society, under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. Further, in 1973, the council got listed in Delhi School Education Act 1973, to conduct “public” examinations.

Objective of CISCE – The council thus framed was centered genuinely towards the Indian School Certificate Examinations (ICSE) to impart quality education with innovation in its part and excellence in its core.

ICSE Examination Pattern

To get hands-on over the objectives, ICSE conducts exams in three prospects

Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE- Class X) – With respect to the New Education policy passed in 1986, Indian certificate of Secondary Education has planned to conduct ICSE- Class X examination in the regard of general education without any private candidate cordially allowed in it. A thorough concept on all the subjects including – English, Hindi, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Computer/Commerce, History, and Geography are examined here.

Indian School Certificate (ISC- Class XII) – In continuation with ICSE- Class X and with regards to New Education policy passed in 1986, ISC- Class XII examinations are being conducted in the medium of English only. Further, broad division is done in three streams –

Science (Which includes Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Mathematics, English, and Hindi/Computer Science or Physical Education),

Commerce (Which includes Economics, Accounts, Mathematics/Hindi/Computer Science/Physical Education, Commerce and English) and

Humanities (English, Economics, History, Geography, Political Science, and Computer).

Certificate in Vocational Education (CVE- Year 12) – The certificate of vocational Education examination is endorsed post approval by Ministry of Human Resource Development and Joint Council of Vocational Education (JCVE) recognized under the New Education Policy passed in 1986. The course is undertaken after ICSE-Class X for any specific vocational course in the medium of English specifically.

The extensive syllabus and well-structured course work of ICSE has many doles of its do’s, these are as follows –

Thorough syllabus of every subject assists in gaining an extensive knowledge of every topic. Adding to this, in a recent report of Hindustan Times released on October 14, 2018 ICSE Board has announced about its comprehensive planning to introduce a new syllabus based on popular titles like that of the Harry Potter series, the adventures of Tintin, Amar Chitra Katha Biographies of APJ Abdul Kalam, Malala Yousafzai and Annie Frank in a bid to make syllabus interesting and dynamic.

Flexibility of choosing different subjects of choice is given by the board.

Standard education framed on a cross border concept, this introduces schools from and outside India. Followed by education pattern is the austere practice of the board in its evaluation process. Aiming which Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has introduced digital pen and tablet based technology with Live Ink Character Recognition (LICR).

This helps examiners in evaluating answer sheets more accurately and publishing the result in less span of time. LICR technology is highly authentic thus it reduces the chance and attempt of re-check requests.

Problem solving, analytical, and applicability skills are developed in the students in the due course of studies. Prolonging with the same, ICSE board is now trying to doodle out with innovative skills like writing, sculpture, art and music in the students as per a report of Times of India on September 30, 2018.

Pertaining to the skills the council of education is also trying to spread awareness and urge of safety in the parents against the “MOMO challenge” which is similar to that of “BLUE WHALE” game with an ultimate result of committing suicide.

Furthermore, with a well-aspired recognition, ICSE board is apparent in every aspect of education.

All about NCERT

We all have studied NCERT textbooks in our schools but did you ever wonder how NCERT was formed and why the responsibility of designing the textbooks has been given to NCERT only? This article outlines regarding, what is NCERT? Its objectives, vision and Logo. Why NCERT text-books should be preferred? So, let’s started…

What is NCERT?

How was NCERT Formed?

NCERT officially came into existence on September 1, 1961 but its foundation was laid couple of months back on 27 July, 1961. Ministry of Education at that time ordered a merger of seven government institutes, which led to formation of a single autonomous council named NCERT.

The main objective of Council was the adoption of a unified pattern of education across all schools in India which included 10 year generalized education program backed by a diversified schooling program for 2 years.

Objectives & vision of NCERT

The objective of national Council of Education, Research and training are:

  1. To conduct and promote educational research.
  2. To experiment education with innovative practices and ideas.
  3. To develop syllabus, textbooks and NCF i.e. National Curriculum framework.
  4. To develop teacher training modules, activity kits, strategies and other learning kits such as video, audio and interactive methodologies.
  5. To provide training to teachers such as pre-service and in-service teachers.
  6. To provide training to national as well as state level functionaries.
  7. To collaborate with international, national and state organizations.

NCERT envisions to:

  1. Connect the knowledge to the life outside school.
  2. Offer an innovative way to shift from the rote learning methodology.
  3. Enrich the curriculum for an overall development of the student which was not only limited to classroom teaching.
  4. Make flexible examination which is integrated with classroom life.
  5. Nurture an informed identity by caring concerns.

Logo of NCERT

Logo of NCERT includes three intertwined swans which symbolize the three aspects of NCERT’s working i.e. Research and Development, Training and Extension. The design has been taken back from 3rd BC Ashoka dynasty. The symbol was found in the excavations near Raichur, Karnataka. The motto of NCERT is written in Sanskrit meaning “life eternal through learning”.
