Biodiversity refers to wildlife and cultivated species. It is diverse in form and function. It is important for human beings for they keep creating and recreating the quality of air we breathe, the water we drink and the soil that gives us food.

Conservation strategies are not new in our country. In some areas of India, local communities are struggling to conserve forests and around Bishnoi villages in Rajasthan, herds of blackbuck, (chinkara), nilgai and peacocks can be seen as an integral part of the community and nobody harms them.
