How to become a Mechanical Engineer?
To become a mechanical engineer, you need to earn a Bachelor’s degree (B.Tech./BE) in Mechanical engineering, which is a 4-year course from any recognised university. One can also pursue a three-year Diploma course in mechanical engineering instead from a polytechnic college in India. you can score a lateral entry into a B.tech course With a 3-year Diploma post class 10th. Eligibility Criteria for B.Tech/ BE
To be eligible for admission in the four-year mechanical engineering course, candidates need to :
- Have completed Xth and XIIth or an equivalent examination from a recognised board with a minimum of 55% in Physics, Chemistry, Maths.
- Having attempted one of the entrance exams: AIEEE (All India Engineering Entrance Exams), JEE Main (Joint Entrance Exam Main), AICET (All India Common Entrance Test) etc.
- Some private colleges take direct admission based on cut off marks of XIIth instead of one of the entrance ranks.
- Candidates can also have completed a three-year diploma from a recognised board in any stream to be eligible for the course (For Lateral entry)
Eligibility criteria for Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum aggregate of 55% in Xth standard
- Minimum aggregate of 50% in XIIth standard with Physics, Chemistry and Maths as main subjects.
- Having Xth pass with Certificate in Motorcycle Services and Repair (CMSR) from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) or Xth pass with ITI certificate is also eligible.
