The rain forests are depleting because of development activities. This is leading to the gradual destruction of the biologically diverse rain forests. It is estimated that a large area of the rain forest has been disappearing annually in the Amazon basin.

(ii) Paddy is grown in the Ganga-Brahmaputra plains.
Answer:
The Ganga-Brahmaputra plain is very fertile. The monsoon brings rain from mid-June to mid-September. The summer is hot and winter is cool. The flat land and alluvial soil is suitable for growing crops, especially paddy. Since cultivation of paddy requires sufficient water, it is grown in the areas where the amount of rainfall is high.
