Nainital is 322 km from Delhi and we took an early morning bus. We had a long but pleasant drive through Moradabad, Rampur and Haldwani. After Haldwani, as the bus climbed higher, the breeze became cooler. It was enjoyable, especially with all the greenery and the chirping of the birds. The bus reached Nainital in the evening. My aunt and uncle came to receive us at the bus terminal.

Set around Naini lake, Nainital is a beautiful hill resort. The emerald mountain lake, at a height of 1,938 metres is very fascinating. It is surrounded by tall mountains, dotted with bright cottages, bungalows, hotels and villas. The lake is surrounded by many trees, particularly Weeping Willows. We really had fun boating in the lake. Horseriding around it was also very enjoyable.

Nainital gets its name from its presiding Goddess Naina Devi. China Peak, Hanuman Garhi, Laria Kanta and Land’s End are some of its other attractions. Bhowali, Bhim Tal and Naukuchia Tal are some other picnic spots around Nainital.

Having stayed there for a fortnight, we returned to Delhi. I had so much fun, and the place was so exciting, that I have decided to visit Nainital again for another vacation next year.
