A monkey is an animal that is intelligent and social. There are many different species of Monkeys that makes them different in sizes, shapes, and colors. There are more than 260 types of monkeys, which you will find all over the world. Monkeys are in their primate order and have a tail. The monkeys are categorized into 2 groups i.e. old world monkey and new world monkey. They are extremely fun-loving and mischicivious in nature and like to move and play around with their group. They always move in a group and the one who is the largest and the strongest amongst them all, becomes their leader— a group of monkeys is known as a tribe. 

If we talk about the species of the monkey, there are many species that you will find all over the world, some of them being mandrill, lion-tailed macaque, guinea baboon, yellow baboon, and many more. Since Monkeys are omnivorous that means they can eat meat as well as plants and fruits. Monkeys use their feet and hands to climb and hang on branches but some of the species use their tails also. They are known as prehensile. Their tails are rigid and flexible and can hold their bodyweight very easily. 

The old world monkeys are found in countries like Africa and other countries in the Asian region while the new world monkeys are found in countries like Mexico, South America, and Central America. Some of the species included in old world monkeys are guenons, mangabeys, baboons, etc. While new world money include woolly monkey, howler monkey, spider monkey, squirrel monkey, and many more. 

The difference between the old world monkey and new world money is that the nose of the old world monkey has a small curved and the nose of the new world monkey has a round shaped. The old world monkeys have cheek pouches which are used to store food whereas the new world monkeys do not have any cheek pouches. 

We all know that monkeys live on trees and branches but some of them also live on savannas or we can say the mountains or hilly areas. They move from one place to another in the search of food and shelter. They move around in tribes or groups and help and protect each other and also special care is given to the youngest member in the group. A male alpha or a male leader mates with multiple females in the group. The gestation period in monkeys varies and depending on the genes. For example, if we talk about the gestation of a species called rhesus the gestation period would be 164 days. Some species have higher gestation periods and some have low. These physical features help to classify them as mammals.
